Elaine Pytluk, LCSW, is a psychotherapist with over 40 years of experience helping people manage life’s most complicated challenges. With practices in Brooklyn, NY, and Englewood, NJ, she’s known for her warm, no-nonsense style that blends clinical depth with real-world wisdom, helping clients work through emotional struggles and navigate difficult people and relationships. Her training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and background in social work give her a unique ability to help clients understand their inner world while also handling the chaos of others with clarity, confidence, and compassion. Her mission is simple: to empower people through insight because “when you understand what’s really going on beneath the surface, you stop reacting and start responding.”
Elaine earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Brooklyn College.
Elaine believes that lasting change begins with awareness. Through her private practice and courses like Psychology for Everyday Living, she helps people identify the triggers and dynamics that shape their lives.
The goal is resilience. By strengthening your sense of self and equipping you with the right psychological tools, Elaine helps you build the confidence to navigate life’s challenges directly and create relationships that feel steady rather than draining.
My vision for my practice is to help people move from reacting to responding, both within themselves and in their relationships. I believe change begins with awareness, understanding the patterns, triggers, and emotional dynamics that shape how we think, feel, relate, and cope.
My goal is to help clients gain the insight, tools, confidence, and emotional resilience needed to heal old wounds, change patterns that no longer serve them, and build healthier, more secure relationships. Therapy is not only about symptom relief, but about helping people move through life with greater clarity, stronger boundaries, and more self-trust.
In Asshole Management, Elaine translates four decades of clinical wisdom into a practical guide for dealing with the people who make life harder than it needs to be. Drawing from psychoanalytic theory, the book explores the "why" behind difficult behavior, insecurity, trauma, and defensiveness, and provides the "how" for moving forward.
